Why Homeopathic Remedies For Hearing Loss Are a Bad Plan

If you cut your arm, it heals. If you stub your toe, it may feel painful and swollen but the inflammation will subside, and you’ll feel better pretty soon. Even if you break a bone, when properly set, it will mend.

But what if your hearing is damaged? Is it possible for the inner ear to heal? Can you get your hearing back? Can that healing be facilitated by homeopathic treatments?

What is homeopathic medicine’s approach?

Homeopathy is considered natural medicine. The philosophy proposes that you’re treating the person and not only the illness. Basically, the human body should have the capacity to activate its own healing ability. Those who practice it believe they are stimulating a natural healing process that allows the body to heal faster than otherwise possible.

What is homeopathic medicine made of?

The prefix “Homeo” signifies “like” and the basis of the word “pathy” means “disease”. So the general meaning of homeopathy is “like a disease”. The fact that a cure would be called “like a disease” may sound strange.”

But it’s called that because it uses substances like nightshade and arsenic which would be harmful in large quantities. Homeopathic supporters believe that by using these substances in very small amounts, a natural healing process is induced.

Some people believe in homeopathic remedies and others don’t. It’s not something that you can easily persuade people of one way or the other. We need to investigate why homeopathic treatments don’t apply to hearing loss.

Homeopathy may be harmless at best for other parts of the body but with the ears, it can actually cause substantial harm.

How hearing works

The cochlea, which is the term for the inner ear, looks like a snail shell. There are tiny hairs, known as cilia, inside of this structure. When sound is produced, these little hairs will vibrate rhythmically. The manner in which these hair cells move sends complex signals to the brain. The brain can interpret these signals to differentiate between a cat’s meow and a car horn. What letters and words are being spoken can also be distinguished.

There are thousands of these tiny hairs in your ears when you’re a newborn. But these hairs decay as you get older and your ears are exposed to infections, loud noises, and other hazards. They bend over. They break. They die. Sound will no longer be received and transmitted by these dead hairs.

The high-frequency hairs that can pick up sounds like a violin solo, birds chirping, or the children playing are the most fragile. So if damage happens, these are the first to go.

When these hairs are destroyed, they won’t grow back or heal themselves — ever. That’s why safeguarding your hearing is so important.

Hearing and homeopathy

The body’s natural healing system is believed to be activated by homeopathic remedies. But hearing loss doesn’t ever heal. When these hairs are gone, they never regrow.

If you’re experiencing early stage hearing loss, the smartest thing you can do is give us a call for a hearing exam. If you put off getting medical assistance and treatment while you “try” homeopathic remedies, you could be doing more long term damage to your hearing. We can help you with treatment solutions that are proven.
